Videostitch was a store front projection in the Jenkins Building at 1217 Walnut in Kansas City, Mo. It was presented in 2005 as part of the Urban Culture Project, an initiative that offers artists exhibition opportunities in downtown Kansas City as a way of nurturing the development of the urban core.
Videostitch is a single video that is comprised of individual films take at five different sites drawn from the greater metropolitan area. It may be regarded as a kind of digital quilt, stitching together imagery from various environments into one simultaneously moving image.
It was designed as a lure—anticipating that those who frequent these varied sites would be drawn into the urban core and experience – as well as participate in – the revitalization of downtown Kansas City.
The sites were:
Golden Star, Inc
A manufacturing plant in North Kansas City
Metropolitan Baptist Temple/Voices Choir
A church in Kansas City, Kansas
Woodside
A tennis and health club in Westwood, Kansas
Car Wash 103
A car wash in suburban Kansas City, Missouri
Waldo Pets
A pet store in Kansas City, Missouri
